Scam Alert Local, State, and Federal officials involved in response and recovery efforts are expected to provide identification and/or wear official attire when making contact with the public. If an individual or group that claims to represent a governmental agency contacts you and cannot produce identification documents or is not wearing official attire for that agency, it is suggested that you try to contact that agency to determine legitimacy. FEMA/State/ US Army Corps of Engineers or State Housing Contractors will be properly identified and will introduce themselves to the property owner before any site inspection is conducted. Official personnel always make telephone contact before arrival. Don’t hesitate to ask for identification from any State/County/Federal official. If in doubt….”see-something- say-something”, contact your local law enforcement agency for assistance with verification. If you cannot make contact with the agency and the individual or group is still trying to assist or collect information, you are advised to contact law enforcement via their non-emergency lines provided below, unless there is a life safety concern where you can dial 9-1-1.
