Golden Gate Parkway over Santa Barbara Canal Bridge Replacement Project Kick-off of Construction Public Information Meeting ______________________________________________________________________________________ Monday, Oct. 10, 2022 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The public information meeting for the Golden Gate Parkway over Santa Barbara Canal Bridge Replacement Project Kick-off of Construction was postponed until Monday, Oct. 10 due to concerns of Hurricane Ian approaching southwest Florida. The meeting had been previously scheduled for Monday, Sept. 26. All interested members of the public are invited to attend the “open house” format meeting at Golden Gate Community Center Auditorium, 4701 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples, FL 34116. All interested community members may stop by during the 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. time frame to review the project displays and talk one-on-one with the construction and design team members. There will not be a formal presentation. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the county’s contractor, Thomas Marine Construction, Inc., and obtain input on the construction plans. The contractor, who plans to start removing the old bridges in early November, then start building the new bridge, will share the construction schedule and attendees will learn how traffic will be maintained and managed during construction. The existing four-lane bridge (two eastbound travel lanes and two westbound travel lanes) was originally constructed in 1971. It is nearing the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. Two adjacent existing pedestrian bridges installed in 2008 will also be removed and the new bridge will include two 12-foot-wide sidewalks, one in each direction. These improvements are anticipated to enhance mobility and maintain connectivity for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Approximately one year is expected to be needed for the construction. The estimated bridge replacement cost is $3.9 million which includes design, permitting, engineering inspection services and construction. Two or more members of the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) may be present and participate at this meeting. The subject matter of this meeting may be an item for discussion and action at a future BCC meeting.
