Better Together seeking volunteers, donations for Hurricane Ian response SOUTHWEST FLORIDA AND SARASOTA, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2022) – Better Together, a nonprofit dedicated to families and children, is in need of volunteers and donations to support families heavily impacted by Hurricane Ian. Volunteers are needed across Southwest Florida and Sarasota to provide short term childcare to first responders, essential workers and families in need of getting their children into a safe environment. Volunteer families are carefully vetted and background-checked to provide care for families in need. Additional volunteers are needed to help deliver resources to families and care for children, including driving supplies to families who don’t have means of transportation, as well as to provide transportation to families who need to leave the area until power is restored. Better Together is partnering with Cape Christian, Mission Church and churches across the state and country to distribute supplies to Southwest Florida families in need. Partners are distributing supplies ranging from tarps, batteries, gas cans, water and non-perishable food to family items including diapers, baby formula and personal hygiene kits. Donations of supplies are also being accepted at Cape Christian, 2110 Chiquita Blvd. S. in Cape Coral. “This is a devastating time for so many, and we want to get children into safe places now, as the need for this will substantially grow this week for families in our community who remain without power,” said Megan Rose, CEO of Better Together. “We encourage those who are able to open their homes or contribute their time or resources to join us. We have a relief fund in place to help support the dozens of volunteers who are currently caring for families, as well as the distribution of supplies for children and families and transportation.” Better Together is also working with local employers to find workers to assist with damage. Employers and job seekers can contact Better Together for assistance. To apply for help, visit bettertogetherus.org/better-families/apply-for-help/. ABOUT BETTER TOGETHER Better Together is a nonprofit organization that helps parents going through a hard time keep their kids out of foster care, find work and address the root causes of their struggle so that they can reunite as a family with the tools and support system to thrive. A privately funded and professionally supported organization, Better Together is made up of volunteers who believe helping people help themselves is the best way to restore dignity and bring families together. Through the Better Families program, families are offered a preventive alternative to foster care while they get the help they need. To date, the program has kept 98% of children served out of foster care. The Better Jobs program was created to address the 76% of families that come to Better Together because of economic hardship tied to unemployment. In addition to community job fairs, the program offers job seekers coaching, guidance, support and encouragement through local church partners. For more information, visit BetterTogetherUS.org.
