Collier Senior Resources (CSR) at the Golden Gate Senior Center (GGSC) – a nonprofit organization working to address the needs of older adults and their caregivers – provides no-cost counseling for women 60 years of age and older each Thursday as part of the charity’s UPSLIDE program. The “Utilizing and Promoting Social Engagement for Loneliness, Isolation and Depression in Elderly” (UPSLIDE) program is designed to provide women 60 years of age and older free counseling for: · Depression · Loneliness · Isolation · Building relationships · Becoming more socially engaged “UPSLIDE provides us another tool to reach senior women to reduce loneliness, isolation and depression so that they become and remain socially active enjoying empowered, independent and meaningful lives,” explains Senior Center Director Tatiana Fortune, MSW. Funded by the Women’s Foundation of Collier County and Moorings Park Foundation, UPSLIDE features a weekly social connection group and mental health counseling. The group is offered from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. every Thursday at the Golden Gate Senior Center, 4898 Coronado Parkway, Naples 34116. Collier Senior Resources’ at the Golden Gate Senior Center ensure a vibrant, diverse and caring space for some 1,400 members to enjoy comprehensive offerings that include: a daily hot lunch and coffee bar; weekly food pantry, blood pressure, vision and diabetes screenings, oral health assessments, balance testing and fall prevention lectures; monthly birthday parties, dance and exercise classes, Alzheimer’s Support Groups, art therapy, cards and games, holiday parties, crafts; Direct Assistance for Needy Seniors Program and other life-enhancing programs and services. Through the Center, CSR serves more than 1,200 hot lunches a month to seniors in-need and provides 780+ families weekly access to a Meals of Hope food pantry, including 330 needy seniors. The charity maximizes each dollar received by collaborating with trusted partners, including AARP Foundation (job placement and training for out-of-work, low-income seniors), Alzheimer’s Support Network, Area Agency on Aging, Catholic Charities (social services), Collier Area Transport, Collier County Nutrition, SHINE Medicare counseling, Literacy Volunteers, Sheriff’s Office and more.
