Quail Creek Country Club in Naples has completed an innovative new 33,000-square-foot Sports Center & Spa that connects the club’s Blue Zones-certified fitness center and wellness offerings with its sports programs. As the centerpiece of a two-year, $18.5 million amenity improvements project, the new Sports Center & Spa represents Quail Creek’s commitment to transforming the member experience. “This project presented an opportunity to be truly forward-thinking about how we wanted to create our member experience,” said Quail Creek Board President Hedy Whitney. “Physically and philosophically connecting our fitness and sports offerings helps increase engagement as members try new activities.” D. Garrett Construction began work in summer of 2018 on the new facility designed by clubhouse architecture firm Peacock + Lewis that features a rotunda with 180-degree views of the driving range and enhanced golf instruction and practice facilities, as well as new tennis and pickleball courts designed and built by Ritzman Courts. The new Sports Center & Spa also integrates health-centered socializing, group training, and fitness combined with technology – which are among the most popular new concepts identified in National Club Association’s Winter 2019 issue of Club Trends. By locating fitness and wellness facilities front and center and bringing golf and racquets operations closer together, the club aims to encourage member interaction and access to services from Quail Creek’s team of trainers, Titleist Performance Institute- and RacquetFit-certified professionals, PGA, LPGA and USTA instructors, and a full-time, on-site physical therapist. “Quail Creek’s leading-edge, integrated approach is unique in Southwest Florida,” said Ian Coleman, Quail Creek’s director of membership. “By offering our members tailored services for conditioning and skills enhancement, we are elevating our level of professionalism and service as they work to achieve their goals in the gym and on the course or courts.” A grand celebration event in January will welcome returning club members and showcase both the new Sports Center & Spa and improvements to the 56,000-square-foot clubhouse, including an enhanced entrance, a new state of the art kitchen, new women’s locker room, renovated men’s locker room and a new wine room for private dining. A January open house will invite the community to explore the club’s amenities and membership opportunities for individuals and families interested in learning more about the club’s social events, leagues, tournaments and robust junior sports programs. In addition to establishing a physical connection among the golf, racquets and fitness programs, positioning the pro shop in the rotunda affords an opportunity to showcase club gear and spa merchandise, as well as grab-and-go sports drinks and nutrition bars. It also mingles members who play different sports and might not ordinarily interact. “Using the pro shop as home base enhances visibility, promotes accessibility and encourages interaction among members and instructors from all departments,” said Director of Court Sports Jose Pastrello. Quail Creek offers nine Har-Tru courts, including six with LED lights and an exhibition court with lights and room for spectators, which will allow the club to pursue more tournaments and pro events. To keep up with the growing popularity of pickleball, the club introduced six new Laykold Master’s gel courts with LED lighting, and plan newly dedicated bocce courts and croquet early next year. “These are also wonderful, low-impact sports that encourage social activity,” said Pastrello. “We want to offer something to every member to meet their level of fitness and ability.” Quail Creek’s Director of Golf Jon Balyeat, who oversees the club’s two championship 18-hole Arthur Hills golf courses, agrees. “By promoting sports, fitness, health, nutrition and well-being in one program, we can help our members play for life,” he said. Fitness, Wellness and Spa Director Teri Brodie said the new 10,000 square foot fitness facility overlooks a resort-style pool and offers 22 pieces of cutting-edge Technogym Artis equipment for cardio and an additional 23 pieces for strength training that members can scan to track their progress with the mywellness app, as well as the Technogym Omnia 8 – a “functional training rig” designed for group training activities. The space also accommodates group cycle classes, studios for Pilates and TRX, and a classroom for functional fitness, barre and yoga classes. Spa services are administered within five treatment, massage therapy and esthetician rooms. “We also incorporated a ‘spa retreat’ area with steam and quiet Zen lounges in both women’s and men’s locker rooms,” said Brodie. Quail Creek Estates resident Jim Clayton and his wife Karen joined the club in 2012. Avid golfers, the Claytons said they appreciate Quail Creek’s camaraderie and welcoming, easy-going spirit. “The new fitness center and renovated tennis courts are bringing a new energy to the club,” said Clayton. “They started attracting new members even before they officially opened!” Quail Creek Country Club is located east of Interstate 75 and north of Immokalee Road.
