Laird A. Lile, a board-certified wills, trusts and estates attorney in Naples, has been named by Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles T. Canady to the newly created Task Force on the Distribution of IOTA Funds. Under the rules regulating The Florida Bar, funds from Interest on Trust Accounts (IOTA) Program flow to The Florida Bar Foundation to be “used to fund programs which are designed to improve the administration of justice or to expand the delivery of legal services to the poor.” The Task Force will examine whether the rules should be amended to better ensure the most effective use of IOTA funds. Specifically, the seven-member Task Force will examine and make recommendations to the Court on alternative models for the distribution of IOTA funds; whether specific priorities should be established for the use of available IOTA funds; whether specific requirements or limitations should be imposed on the use of IOTA funds; whether reporting requirements should be adopted, and other related recommendations. Lile currently serves on the Florida Supreme Court’s Judicial Management Council and the Florida Courts Technology Commission. Recently recognized for the second consecutive year as a Top 10 Florida Super Lawyer, Lile has twice been named one of Florida Trend’s 500 Most Influential Business Leaders in Florida. He is serving a seventh consecutive term on the Board of Governors for The Florida Bar. In June 2018, Lile was selected by Chief Judge McHugh to serve as Clerk of Court ad Interim for Collier County. Lile is past chair of the Bar’s 10,800-member Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section. A past state chair and a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, Lile was inducted into Florida Trend’s Legal Elite Hall of Fame in 2010. He recently was named to Best Lawyers in America for the 25th consecutive year.
