NAPLES, Fla. – April 11, 2019 – PBS Contractors, Southwest Florida’s Concierge Builder®, raised nearly $2,000 for Collier-Lee Honor Flight at their semi-annual barbecue fundraiser. The April 5th barbecue at PBS Contractors’ office brought in more than 200 people including members of the Collier-Lee Honor Flight Board and three WWII Veterans – Don Shreve, Bob Naun, and Cooper Shields. The mission of Collier-Lee Honor Flight is to transport local Veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honoring their service and sacrifices. These trips are provided at no cost for the Veterans and rely heavily on public support. Kristi Pickard, PBS’ Executive Assistant, and Collier-Lee Honor Flight Board Member expresses her feelings on why she chose to volunteer to this organization: “As a daughter of a Vietnam Veteran, it was difficult watching my father struggle with the adversity of being forcefully drafted for a war that many people did not support, and some of those very people expressed hate towards the service Vietnam GIs provided. This adversity emotionally scarred many in addition to the PTSD veterans often experience. The way he was treated from day one – being drafted by the USArmy – to his last day – coming home, injured and being hated for something he was forced to partake in. “Upon learning the details of what the Honor Flight does to honor our ‘True American Heroes,’ my husband and I had to be a part of this cause. Since our four sons have joined the military (3 USMC; 1 USAF), my father has been able to open up more about his time in the service/war, encouraging him to heal the pain he carries to this day. He too will have the opportunity to be a part of an Honor Flight, as a War Hero, and receive the closure, and love from the people, he was never given.”
