Naples, FL – 4/10/19 – Collier Senior Resources (CSR) – a nonprofit organization working to address the needs of older adults and their caregivers – is encouraging the community to participate the 2019 Stamp Out Hunger letter carriers food drive taking place on Saturday, May 11, 2019. “Stamp Out Hunger is crucial to meeting the basic needs of many of our seniors, as well as so many other infants, children and adults in our community. Donations fortify their bodies, feed their minds and uplift their spirits helping individuals of all ages lead their healthiest, happiest and most productive lives,” explains Senior Center Director Tatiana Fortune. Through the Golden Gate Senior Center, CSR provides a daily hot lunch and coffee bar, as well as weekly food pantry, to some of the charity’s 1,3000 members, serving more than 1,200 hot lunches a month to seniors in-need and providing 780+ families weekly access to a Meals of Hope food pantry, including 330 needy seniors. Hosted the second Saturday each May by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the one-day Stamp Out Hunger food drive has collected more than 1.5 billion pounds of non-perishable food left by USPS customers’ mailboxes in 10,000 cities across the US, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. Locally, this food is delivered to Collier Harvest which then distributes to Collier charities, including Collier Senior Resources, NAMI, Youth Haven and more. Through the Center, CSR offers a safe-space where seniors can learn new skills, develop relationships, share stories, build community and feel included. The charity maximizes each dollar received by collaborating with trusted partners, including AARP Foundation (job placement and training for out-of-work, low-income seniors), Alzheimer’s Support Network, Area Agency on Aging, Catholic Charities (social services), Collier Area Transport, Collier County Nutrition, SHINE Medicare counseling, Literacy Volunteers, Sheriff’s Office and more. Additionally, CSR provides: a daily hot lunch and coffee bar; weekly food pantry, blood pressure, vision and diabetes screenings, oral health assessments, balance testing and fall prevention lectures; monthly birthday parties, dance and exercise classes, art therapy, cards and games, holiday parties, Alzheimer’s support groups, crafts; Direct Assistance for Needy Seniors Program and other life-enhancing programs and services. Through the Center, CSR serves more than 1,200 hot lunches a month to seniors in-need and provides 780+ families weekly access to a Meals of Hope food pantry, including 330 needy seniors.
