Naples, Fla.— Artis—Naples, Southwest Florida’s premier destination for the visual and performing arts, released its full schedule of performances for the 2018-19 season this week. Highlights include Steve Martin and Martin Short, Jay Leno, Bernadette Peters, Leslie Odom, Jr., David Feherty, and Star Wars Live in Concert performed by the Naples Philharmonic. “The spectrum of artistic offerings this year is wide and far-reaching,” said Kathleen van Bergen, CEO and president, “As always, it reflects our commitment to excellence as we create and curate immersive experiences for our community.” This season represents two milestones for Artis—Naples: Andrey Boreyko’s fifth season as Sharon and Timothy Ubben Music Director and the 10th anniversary of the Naples International Film Festival (NIFF). Boreyko returns for his fifth season with Artis—Naples continuing to broaden the audience’s experience—beyond the music they might hear in Hayes Hall. “Evident in Andrey’s planning has been his focus on fostering cross-connections among the performing and visual arts that are so essential to our mission,” said van Bergen. This season’s theme, Fashioning Influence, is further indication of those connections with specific attention paid to the influence of artists upon each other and within art forms. One of the more notable examples is the Naples Philharmonic’s performance of Stravinsky’s The Firebird, where audiences will be treated to Isabelle de Borchgrave’s fascinating new paper costumes depicting the famous dance troupe Les Ballets Russes suspended above the musicians. NIFF packs four days in October with more than 60 film screenings, introducing new films and their creators to our community. The Opening Night Film and Party includes the excitement of walking the red carpet, and there are two Closing Night events to help celebrate 10 years of the Naples International Film Festival; the Closing Night Awards Ceremony and An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life with the Steep Canyon Rangers and Jeff Babko, a special Closing Night performance with Steve Martin and Martin Short. Another exciting happening on the cultural campus will be the start of construction—The Baker Museum Repair and Expansion Project—as part of Artis—Naples’ Future—Forward Campaign for Cultural Excellence. While the museum proper will remain closed for the season, bold works like the The Four Seasons by American artist Philip Haas and a site-specific installation by French artist Daniel Buren will grace outdoor spaces. And, exhibitions including de Borchgrave’s Fashioning Influence and works from The Baker Museum’s permanent collection can be viewed in Hayes Hall Galleries. Lifelong Learning favorites Joan Jacobs, Elaine Newton and Rick Harris return, and new lecture series related to opera and Shakespeare begin. Plus, the season features numerous free community and educational events. Tickets for most events will be available for purchase August 6 at 10am. The box office can be reached at 239-597-1900.
