NAPLES, Fla. — The road to the 2018 U.S. Open just might go through Naples. The Pelican Marsh Golf Club is honored that the facility has been selected by the United States Golf Association (USGA) as one of 15 sites in Florida that will host local qualifying for the U.S. Open Golf Championship. The 18-hole qualifying event will be held at Pelican Marsh on Monday, May 14th. The USGA selected 112 sites across 45 states and Canada to host local qualifiers between April 30th and May 17th. Players who advance out of local qualifiers will compete in one of a dozen 36-hole sectional qualifiers, which are set for June 4th. The USGA recently announced that it has accepted 9,049 entries into this summer’s event at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southhampton, N.Y. The event will be played June 14-17th. “With our recently completed renovation in 2016, the golf course is in excellent condition and will provide the players with a fair but challenging test. The tif-eagle undulating Bermuda greens are some of the best putting surfaces in Southwest Florida and will be firm and fast for the competition,” says Phil Pellerito, Pelican Marsh’s Director of Golf. The Pelican Marsh Golf Club is a private, member-owned golf club in the gated North Naples community of Pelican Marsh. It is located on U.S. 41, north of Vanderbilt Beach Road (next to Mercato) at 1810 Persimmon Drive, Naples, Fla. 34109. Information, including a video tour of the facility, can be found online at www.PelicanMarshGC.com. Reach the club by phone at (239) 597-0016.
