NAPLES, Fla. (March 12, 2018) – Guadalupe Center, a nonprofit organization focused on breaking the cycle of poverty through education for the children of Immokalee, has retained its prestigious four-star rating by Charity Navigator for strong financial acumen, accountability and transparency. Earning the top rating from Charity Navigator, the largest nonprofit evaluation group in the U.S., offers outside validation that Guadalupe Center is adhering to strict accounting procedures while disclosing pertinent financial and operational information to the federal government. Guadalupe Center earned a perfect 100-point score in accountability and transparency, and 93.05 points in overall financial health. In a commendation letter to Guadalupe Center, Charity Navigator President and CEO Michael Thatcher wrote that “Only 29 percent of the charities we evaluate have received at least two consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Guadalupe Center outperforms most other charities in America. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Guadalupe Center apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness.” Guadalupe Center relies on donations, grants and fundraising events to serve 1,300 Immokalee-area students annually through a variety of programs, including early childhood education, after-school tutoring, summer enrichment and mentoring. “Earning four stars from Charity Navigator is a tremendous achievement,” said Guadalupe Center President Dawn Montecalvo. “We rely on generous support from our benefactors, so this top rating provides reassurance that we’re spending our funds wisely to assist the students of Immokalee, as we have since 1982.” Charity Navigator is the leading charity evaluator in the country and has been profiled in numerous national publications, including Forbes, Business Week, USA Today, The New York Times and Kiplinger’s Financial Magazine.
