NAPLES (Florida), United States – February 20, 2018 – Naples’ premiere opera company, Opera Naples, is hosting two exciting performances in March. Part of the Bernstein at 100 global centennial, Opera Naples Chorus and soloists will perform A Celebration of Leonard Bernstein on March 10th at the Wang Opera Center at 7:30 pm. Then, Opera Naples will present the second concert of the Beaux Arts Chamber Music Series, the return of the Grammy Award-winning Ying Quartet on March 22nd at Wang Opera Center at 7:30 pm with artistic director, pianist Tao Lin. A CELEBRATION OF LEONARD BERNSTEIN, MARCH 10, 2018 AT 7:30 PM Opera Naples will celebrate the 100th birthday year of the great American composer, educator, and conductor, Leonard Bernstein with an evening of his enchanting music performed by soloists and the Opera Naples Chorus. Leonard Bernstein is one of the most visible personalities in classical music during the 20th century. He has been named one of the most prodigiously talented and successful musicians in American History. He is internationally recognized as composer, conductor, educator and humanitarian. Composer: Bernstein’s famous works include West Side Story and Candide, in addition to various symphonies, choral pieces, ballet, and songs. Conductor: Bernstein conducted the great orchestras of the world over four decades, and was music director of the New York Philharmonic for 11 years. He influenced and taught the many of the conductors who now lead major orchestras worldwide. Educator: Bernstein was dedicated to communicating the joy of music to young people. Many generations will remember Bernstein’s pioneering TV series Young People’s Concerts. Humanitarian: Bernstein spoke out against the injustices in the world, both through his music and his own voice. During the politically uncertain 1950’s, the US State Department sent Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic as good-will ambassadors to perform as far as Latin America and the Soviet Union. BEAUX ARTS CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES PRESENTS YING STRING QUARTET, MARCH 22, 2018 AT 7:30 PM Back by popular demand, the Ying String Quartet will be performing one of the greatest masterworks in the quartet literature: Grosse Fugue by Ludwig Van Beethoven with Beaux Arts Chamber Music Series Artistic Director and pianist Tao Lin. The program will also include Mendelssohn’s String Quartet, Op. 12 and Dohnanyi’s Piano Quintet, Op. 1. Los Angeles Times has described the Ying Quartet “as close to the ideal as possible, delivering chamber music of astonishing, refreshing exaltation and exhilaration.” They occupy a position of unique prominence in the classical music world by combining brilliantly communicative performances with a fearlessly imaginative view of chamber music in today’s world.
