Naples, Florida, January 23rd, 2018—Prominent Naples dermatologist, Dr. Joel Waltzer has been named Cancer Alliance of Naples’ Jerry Conti Angel Award recipient for 2018. Each year, a member of our local community is selected for their commitment to the Cancer Alliance of Naples, going above and beyond with their time to assist the local cancer community and those who are affected by cancer. The award will be presented at the Cancer Alliance of Naples annual Spring Luncheon held on March 2nd at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in Naples. Renamed the Jerry Conti Angel Award just last year, this prestigious award is named after founding and honorary board member, Jerry Conti, who tirelessly gave his all to support the local cancer community. The award is designated in his honor, recognizing an Angel in our community, who also continues to give their endless energy and support to those who need it. Waltzer is recognized for his passion and endless support to the Cancer Alliance of Naples (www.cancerallianceofnaples.org) in their goal to provide support and resources to those affected by this disease. Founder of YogaCAN, an annual fundraiser to raise awareness and funds for the Cancer Alliance of Naples through a yoga session at the Naples Beach Hotel, Waltzer began this community-wide benefit for his wife, Jane, who was undergoing treatment for a rare form of breast cancer. Conceiving the idea for YogaCAN, during his regular yoga practice, Waltzer and former greenmonkey yoga owner, Kiersten Mooney set up the grassroots fundraising event. They were greeted by 200 supporters and raised $30,000 in donations. Over the last four years, YogaCAN has raised nearly $250,000 for Cancer Alliance of Naples. Through this selfless dedication and determination, Waltzer proved the importance of coming together for the greater good. Through his tireless efforts, both personally and professionally, Waltzer has shown the community the true value of being of service. He speaks about the mission of Cancer Alliance of Naples and how it has helped those who truly need it. “A letter to the editor in the Naples Daily News caught my attention. A man living with cancer wrote it. The author was a client of the Cancer Alliance of Naples and was expressing his gratitude to them for paying his bills while he was too sick to work. Thanks to CAN, an organization I had not yet heard of, he and his family did not lose their home,” he says. Executive Director of Cancer Alliance of Naples, Jodi Bisogno comments on Waltzer’s contribution to the organization. “Dr. Waltzer is full of passion in all that he does for CAN, through YogaCAN and beyond. He is a force. Everyone who has the opportunity to hear him speak, understands his heart and feels how he touches the local community though his efforts. In everything he does and to all he comes into contact with, he speaks of CAN and the incredible work we do for cancer patients and their families. CAN is grateful to have him as a part of our CAN family and honored to present the Jerry Conti Angel Award for his tireless efforts. Dr. Waltzer and his family continue to do this great work in Jane’s honor every year, bringing more and more of the community together for CAN,” she says.
