Marco Island, December 29, 2017: Marco Island Center for the Arts is pleased to present jewelry artist Linda Osika on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm for an Artist Talk and Trunk Show. The talk runs from 5:30 – 6:00 pm with the show to follow. There is no charge to attend. Reservations are required. Trunk Show items are available to be purchased. As a child Linda was fascinated with the Asian culture and as an adult lived in China for 10 years. While there Linda would visit the carved stone and pearl markets on her bicycle. These merchants provided the material that would become her original signature Asian jewelry. Linda now journeys the world in search of unique, high quality pearls, beads and other elements. She has just returned from her annual Asian buying trip which included stops in Thailand and India. Linda noted that on January 16th “She will share with you the nature and history of the people and places she visited to create her jewelry for this trunk show.” Please contact Marco Island Center for the Arts to reserve your space at 239.394.4221 or online at www.marcoislandart.org. The talk and trunk show will be held at the Art Center, 1010 Winterberry Drive in the Lauritzen & Rush Galleries. The Exhibition “East Meets West” will also be on display in the galleries. You can view the countries of Cambodia, India and Vietnam interpreted thru three different mediums –Fiber, Photography and Raku-fired Clay. The ancient traditions of people, breathtaking places, iconic images and sacred ceremonies will be illuminated and interpreted by artists Muffy Clark Gill (fiber), Joseph C. Parisi, DVM (photography) and Richard W. Rosen (raku-fired clay). In the La Petite Galerie, artist Vera Ripley’s work is being shown. Throughout her early life in Russia, Vera was exposed to many forms of artistic expression. Upon relocating to Winnipeg, Canada she started taking oil painting classes. Initially her classes were merely a hobby. Then she began to become more fascinated with the colors and shapes of fruit and vegetables and how they translate onto canvas using oil paint. In 2014, Vera decided to become a professional artist. All of her artwork shows strong shapes and unique colors. The 2017-2018 Exhibition Season is supported by a Community Grant from Walmart. We thank them for their support of the Arts in our community.
