Lions, Tigers, and Service Dogs - Oh my! June 15, 2023. Naples, Florida. Naples Zoo recently hosted a training exercise and enrichment experience for their animals in partnership with Golden PAWS and their canine cadets. This was an incredible opportunity for Naples Zoo’s animal care team to better prepare their animals for when a service dog visits the Zoo. Golden PAWS cadets Rollie, Bernie, Max, Batts, and Pal worked on complex desensitization skills in front of Shani (African lioness), Athena (Florida panther), Winslow (cheetah), Shani (honey badger), the zebras, and Anna (Florida black bear). To ensure the safety of Zoo guests, staff, and all animals it is necessary to have a service dog policy in compliance with the ADA's requirements on service animals, fully trained service dogs in compliance with this policy are welcome at Naples Zoo. This exciting and unique collaboration benefited both partners and brought many smiles to zoo staff, volunteers, and Golden PAWS volunteer handlers. Naples Zoo is thankful for training programs like this to continue to better the experience of guests with service dogs. Naples Zoo is very thankful to the dedicated and hard-working staff of Golden PAWS for all their efforts.
